Five concerts soon at KLPAC

BECAUSE THE Established in 2005, the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Center (KLPAC) has made a huge contribution to the local entertainment industry, especially the theater scene. Thanks to the founders, Dato Farida Merikan and Joe Hasham Oam, who are constantly working to give voice to local artists.

Even in these times of uncertainty, the founders of KLPAC kept their doors open to up-and-coming creatives. In fact, just next month, KLPAC is going to put on a lot of exciting shows. From classical concerts to comedy performances, here are five upcoming productions to watch at KLPAC.

Malaysian Jazz Piano Festival 2022

The Malaysian Jazz Piano Festival is back with exciting new events. Guests, as usual, expect a wide range of rich and enjoyable jazz events – concerts, seminars and forums. But this time the guests will be treated to a special treat.

For the first time, the upcoming jazz event will feature the Malaysian Junior Jazz Piano Competition. So, mark your calendars and support the young stars of tomorrow!

Tchaikovsky – the great master romantic

The last item on the July KLPAC list, “Tchaikovsky the Great Romantic Master,” is dedicated to the late Tchaikovsky. In fact, the show gives viewers a rare opportunity to experience the beauty of Tchaikovsky’s music. The pianist Dr. Elaine Yap Sin Yi revives his legacy.

Yap, who recently received her PhD in piano performance, will open the show with the late composer’s classic, Piano Concerto No. 1 in B Flat Minor, Op.23.

Philadelphia, I’m coming!

An adaptation of Brian Friel’s 1964 play Philadelphia Here I Come. KLPAC Founder Joe Hasham OAM is once again bringing this beloved play to the local scene. Hasham will return to this iconic production with some of her original cast including Dato’s Farida and Patrick Theo, as well as new cast members.

Philadelphia, I’m coming! revolves around a local boy named Danny Tan who lives in Cheras. Tan, who feels unsatisfied, decides to accept his aunt’s offer to join her in Philadelphia. Having made this decision, he fantasizes about his new life – without a former lover and a taciturn father.

Lawn Camera Series

Have you ever wanted to comfortably enjoy instrumental music outdoors? Well, say no more as the lawn camera series is designed to give you that experience! The klpac Symphony Orchestra will be the first installment in the Lawn Chamber series and will entertain guests on the lawn in front of the concert hall.

The group of 34 musicians will perform popular hits such as “Beauty and the Beast”, “Lord of the Rings”, “When You Want a Star” and many others. klpac Symphonic Band also offers many interactive events for the public.

Memories with klpac string orchestra

This upcoming orchestral concert, which will take place at Pentas 2, will mark the debut of Andrea Sim as the permanent conductor of the klpac String concert. The Sim will celebrate their arrival by performing a set of classical music and contemporary numbers.

As for the classics, the upcoming feature will feature numbers such as Bach’s Brandenburg and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7. Whereas for their contemporary offerings, the string orchestra will include popular tracks such as “Test Drive” (from “How to Train Your Dragon”) and the John Williams trilogy.
