Tech Tip: How to digitally sign a document on PC, Mac, Android or iPhone

First, consider your signature

Even in the digital age, a handwritten signature provides a personal touch. Do not use a mouse or trackpad. It never looks right.

If you are using Adobe

Adobe Reader is one of the most widely used PDF applications. There are also Adobe Acrobat DC and Adobe Acrobat Sign which work similarly.

To sign a document, open the PDF file and find sign icon on the top toolbar. It looks like the tip of a pen. It should be in the toolbar at the top of the app. You can also go to Tools > Fill out and sign.

The fields you can fill in should turn blue on the document. Find the place where you want to write your signature, click it, then click the icon sign icon again. You will have the option to draw your signature with your mouse or trackpad, enter your initials, or upload the photo of the signature you want.

To save the signature, check the ” Save Signature “box and click Apply sign a document.

Signing is easy on Mac

Creating a virtual signature that can be used on a Mac is easy with the Preview app—no additional downloads required.

  • AT Previewhit Tools.
  • To choose Annotate.
  • To choose Signature > Select Signature management.

From there you have two options. You can sign using the trackpad (you’ll have more options if you can style it nicely) or sign your name on a white sheet of paper and hold it up to your webcam.

Try it on iPhone or iPad

Markup is a powerful tool that you may not even know exists. It lets you edit screenshots and photos, add captions to documents, insert text, and more without downloading a third-party app.

To sign a document:

  • Open a document and tap Editthen Markup button.
  • Click Add button to add text or caption.
  • Click Made twice.

On Android, try Adobe Fill & Sign

As with the desktop version of Adobe Acrobat, the free Android counterpart can also be used to sign documents. You will be given the option to draw your signature on the screen, which is easier to do correctly than on a computer.

This app is also a great way to fill out forms, and you can use it to print to PDFs for a clean, professional looking document. Adobe Acrobat is available as a free download from the Google Play Store. Tap or click here to download it..
