1903 new cases registered in South Africa

South Africa reported 1,903 new cases of Covid-19 on Wednesday, according to the National Institute for Infectious Diseases (NICD).

Thus, the total number of detected cases in the country has reached 3,981,739 people.

NICD said the increase in cases is 8.5% positive.

There are also 26 Covid-related deaths reported, 10 of which occurred in the last 24 to 48 hours.

The total death toll in South Africa now stands at 101,576.

Provincial breakdown

Most of the new cases reported on Wednesday are in Gauteng (31%), followed by the Western Cape (21%).

KwaZulu-Natal accounted for 13%; The Eastern Cape was 10%; while the Free State and the Northwest accounted for 6% each. Mpumalanga accounted for 5%; Northern Cape was 4%; and Limpopo accounted for 3% of cases on Wednesday.

The NICD also reported that there was an increase of 44 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours.

To date, a total of 25,537,597 tests have been carried out in the public and private sectors.
