962 active cases in the last 24 hours

South Africa has recorded 962 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours.

According to the National Institute of Infectious DiseasesNICD), 14,418 tests were carried out in the last 24 hours.

The total number of cases was 3,978,575.

Gauteng has 1.3 million cumulative cases, with 361 new cases reported in the past 24 hours. There were 713,509,697,156 cumulative cases in KwaZulu-Natal, 362,404 in the Western Cape, and 114,757 cases in the Eastern Cape and Northern Cape.

So far, 25,495,097 Covid-19 tests have been carried out.

International update

Sonia Gandhi, president of India’s main opposition Congress Party, has been hospitalized with “Covid-related issues,” a party spokesman said Sunday.

Gandhi has been admitted to the Ganga Ram Hospital in the capital New Delhi, Congress Secretary-General Randeep Surjewala tweeted.

“She is stable and will be kept under observation in the hospital,” he said, without giving any details.

On June 2, a 75-year-old man tested positive for Covid-19.

In Canada, the government has announced the suspension of selective Covid testing at airports until the end of June to cut chronic traveler delays in recent weeks, the government said on Friday.

Testing will be suspended from Saturday and will resume “off-site” on July 1, according to a government statement.
