Mandla Nchikazi is said to have been surprised by the arrival of new Orlando Pirates coach Jose Reviero, who was named head coach for the next three years.
The day before Spain’s Reveiro was revealed, Njikazi held a meeting with players planning next season, according to an insider at the club.
“Njikazi knew someone would come, but he just didn’t know who would help him and when. He thought it would happen during the season because he had already planned everything for the season. The pre-season is there, he was ready and the players knew they needed to prepare for this week because they passed the fitness tests last week,” the source said.
“But as shocked and surprised as he was, he still knew what was about to happen and all he wants is to see the club go back to its old habits. Coach Mandla is ambitious, very ambitious and I’m sure he will work well with Coach José. He knows the players, he knows what the club needs, and most importantly, he always puts the club first. As shocked as he is, he knows his responsibilities and the management of the club believe in him.”
As previously reported, the newly appointed coach will be assisted by Sergio Almenara and Njikazi.
