A man is accused of removing jewelry from a dead man immediately after a fatal accident on Pine Lawn.

ST. LOUIS, MO. (KMOV) — A man has been charged with removing jewelry from a dead man after he died in a car crash on Pine Lawn on Sunday.

Elmer Perry, 46, has been charged with one count of theft. Police say he stole from Arthur Fulton, 46, just after Fulton died in an accident at Jennings Station Road.

The accident occurred around 9:45 p.m. south of Interstate 70 at Jennings Station Road when Fulton pulled his Cadillac CTS out of the roadway. The Missouri Highway Patrol said a Mercedes-Benz crashed into a Cadillac, causing the Mercedes to burst into flames. Fulton died, the driver of the Mercedes survived.

Authorities say that before paramedics and police arrived on the scene, Perry approached the Cadillac and then removed Fulton’s jewelry. Perry was later arrested. Police say he confessed to the crime.

Perry is being held at St. Louis County Jail on $25,000 bail. The jewelry was later returned to the Fulton family.
