Teenagers jump off bridge to save drowning 15-year-old girl in Barnstable

CENTREVILLE. A day of fun and fishing for young New York friends on Wednesday quickly turned into a tense situation when they saw a stranger jump from a bridge into the Centerville River near Craigville Beach.

“He rocked up and down in the water and then went under the water and I couldn’t see him,” said Will Anagnos. “I really didn’t know what to do. I just pulled it out of the water and then pulled it back to shore.”

Firefighters are grateful to Will and his friends for saving the life of a 15-year-old. Will’s mother credits years of swimming lessons, water safety, and his experience as an Eagle Scout.

“He had some training in swimming and things like that and what to do in an emergency,” Will’s mother Gidget Anagnos said. “You don’t really think about it, you just do it.”

The victim was unconscious when the boys pulled him out. Moments later, rescuers arrived.

“I feel good, we saved someone’s life,” Kyle Richardson said. “But at the time it was a little scary. Really nervous.”

“My kids are humble and do the right thing when it’s needed,” Gidget said. “He pulled it off today. I am amazed”.

A fire department spokesman said the 15-year-old was rushed to Cape Cod Hospital with serious injuries as a priority patient.
