At least 18 Ukrainians, including two children, According to the Ukrainian government, 30 others were killed and injured in Russian rocket attacks near the port city of Odessa.

The attacks were focused on a residential area in the small town of Sergeevka, about 30 miles southwest of Odessa. Rockets hit an apartment building where 16 out of 18 died – and the resort, according to local news.

On Thursday, Russian troops withdrew from nearby Snake Island, which they strategically occupied at the start of the invasion, to potentially attack Odessa.

Russia called the troop withdrawal a “goodwill gesture” while Ukraine said it was a retreat from Ukrainian artillery fire.

“A terrorist country is killing our people. In response to defeats on the battlefield, they are fighting civilians,” said Andriy Yermak, head of the staff of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.
