Birmingham Stallions receiver Victor Bolden Jr. stepped up last week when it timed and picked up the team at just the right time in their playoff game against the New Orleans Breakers.
At 14–14 in the second quarter, Bolden returned the Breakers’ 90-yard kickoff to land. It was the first return touchdown. US Football Leagues First season.
This would give Birmingham a 21–14 lead and help them eventually win 31–17. Birmingham will now play the Philadelphia Stars in the USFL Championship.
“It means a lot,” Bolden told Fox News Digital when asked what it means to have a sub-score. “Especially when you talk about being a playmaker, you always want to come in and do something to help the team win. It happened at the most opportune moment. Our dedicated team department talked about this before the game, that it will be really important this week that we help our attack and defense with outfield position. I felt great.”
Bolden was named to the All-USFL team as a wide receiver and as a special team. He had 42 catches for 415 yards and a receiving touchdown, as well as 618 return yards.
“It is an honor. Being recognized by your peers as one of the best in the league definitely means a lot that you put in the world and it pays off. I must continue to be such a leader for my team and get us this trophy,” Bolden said.
Bolden and J’Mar Smith will lead the Stallions to a championship against the Stars on Saturday. Philadelphia upset the New Jersey Generals in their playoff game.
“I feel good,” he told Fox News Digital. “Achieving what we as a team have been talking about is always exciting. Just calm down before the storm at this point, trying to prepare.”
Bolden said the Stallions will walk away with the championship, it all depends on who makes the fewest mistakes.
“Because, as you can see, most of the time, either the team that wins the battle for turnover or makes the fewest mistakes is the one that has the most success. If we continue to play clean football and do what we want in our game plan, I think we have a good chance of winning.”
The USFL Championship will take place on Sunday at 7:30 pm ET on FOX.
