RUSHVILLE, Indiana (WISH) – A communications tower fell on the Rushville Police Department and trees were downed during the Rush County Fair when a storm hit the area Friday night, according to the County Office of Emergency Management.

Ryan Cameron’s photo shows the police department tower leaning over the roof of the building. Cameron says a tree also fell in his house.

David Slayton shared photos with News 8 showing the roof of a building blown off and the seats on the baseball field at Rushville Consolidated High School damaged.

An EMA manager told the National Weather Service in Indianapolis that several trees were broken or uprooted at the fair grounds, where the storm also sent flying debris and brought down tents and tables. The manager also reported a downed tree in a house on East 11th Street.

The weather service warned people of severe storms causing 40 mph winds and half-inch hail in Johnson, Rush and Shelby counties from approximately 7:30 pm to 9:15 pm Friday.

Just before 9:30 p.m. Friday, 1,090 RushShelby Energy customers, most in Fayette County, and 1,378 Duke Energy customers, most in Johnson and Rush counties, were left without power. Power supply to most customers was restored by 22:35.
