Fairhope business closed for the weekend due to lightning strike

MOBILE, Al. (VALA) – A restaurant in Fairhope will be closed this holiday weekend after being directly hit by lightning.

The owner of Locals on Fairhope Avenue says it happened during Thursday’s storm.

Fortunately, the roof of the building suffered minor damage, with several tiles flying off.

But it was the inside that suffered the most. The strike burned down all electronics, everything from printers, cables, modems and sockets.

With the busy July 4th weekend approaching, owner Wade Perrier says the timing couldn’t be worse.

“Twelve years in business. The worst thing that ever happened to us was that Sally was away for two days, which was to be expected,” Perrier said. “But no, no direct lightning strike or natural disaster, if you will.”

Perrier says employees were inside at the time of the lightning strike.

No harm done.

He hopes to return to work on Tuesday.
