Justin Thomas On Monday, the shadows of LIV Golf competitors Talor Gooch and Patrick Reid emerged with remarks that the JP McManus Pro-Am felt close to the Ryder Cup.
JP McManus Pro-Am takes place the day before Open Championship, the last major of the golf season, which will take place at the end of this month. It is also held at the Adare Estate in Ireland, which will also host the 2027 Ryder Cup.
“I am just amazed at what is today and what has been this weekend and week. It will be flawless. The golf course is beautiful and seems to be great for spectators,” Thomas said via golf channel. “I mean, it’s pretty close to the Ryder Cup today.”
While Thomas’s remarks may seem rather innocuous at first glance, he appeared to be making fun of Gooch, who made similar comments about the first LIV Golf in the US at Pumpkin Ride last weekend.
Gooch compared the atmosphere at the LIV Golf event to the Ryder Cup and the President’s Cup, even though he did not compete in either tournament.
“I haven’t played in the Ryder Cup or the Presidents Cup, but I can’t imagine there’s a damn big difference,” he said Saturday. “It was as cool as it gets. We’ve been talking about this all week. The energy is just different, it’s amazing.”
Gooch, Reed and their team of “Four Aces” won the team portion of the tournament.
Reed added, “Just watching all the guys get excited and excited. I felt like I was playing in the team competition at the Ryder Cups, Presidents Cups and similar events where everything is just all in.”
Braden Grace snatched the victory event in Oregon.
