Eddie Munson promised “the most metal concert in the history of the world” inStranger Things 4Volume 2… and he delivered.
Warning: slight spoilers ahead.
But without revealing too much, Eddie (Joseph Quinn) and Dustin Henderson (Gaten Matarazzo) travel to the Upside Down as part of the gang’s plan to fight the villain Vecna.
The two need to distract the “demobats” guarding Creel House, and Eddie, as expected, does so by breaking his electric guitar.
“It was like it was meant for another dimension,” says Munson, admiring his guitar in the dark gray world of Upside Down.
He then takes his guitar to the roof of his trailer and kicks into “Master of Puppets,” the title track from Metallica’s 1986 masterpiece, whose lyrics fit the moment perfectly.
Incidentally, The Puppet Master came out on March 3, 1986. It’s only a few weeks before the events of Stranger Things 4, which proves that Eddie is a real fan.
Volume 1 released Netflix in May, returned Kate Bush’s 1985 hit “Running Up That Hill” to the chartswhere it is to this day.
“The Puppet Master” has already seen a surge in performances and currently #21 on the US Spotify chartsless than three days after the show premiered.
Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo revealed on Instagram that his son Ty provided an extra guitar for the big event.
“That’s my boy! Proud of you Ty!” he wrote, adding that longtime Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett helped him.
Fans on social media hailed Quinn’s turn as Munson as the “most metallic” moment.
