Two women die in a shark attack in Egypt’s Red Sea

Two sources told Reuters that the body of a Romanian tourist in her 40s was discovered hours after the attack that killed the 68-year-old Austrian woman. According to sources, the attacks took place within 600 meters (1,969 ft) of each other off the coast of Sahl Hasheesh.

In a statement, the ministry said a commission had been set up to look into the circumstances of the attacks and any scientific reasons behind them.

He also mentioned that Major General Amr Hanafi, Governor of the Red Sea Governorate, had issued an order to suspend all activities in the area surrounding the attacks.

The first victim was taken to a local private hospital, a Red Sea Health Authority source told Reuters. He added that they tried to resuscitate her, but she died from her injuries.

The security source also added that the Austrian woman had been living in Egypt for the past five years with her Egyptian husband.
