India’s leading sports broadcaster star sport cooperates with sports Company Nodwin Gaming, broadcast eSports matches live on TV. The first-of-its-kind move in the country will give a big boost to esports as the main sports broadcaster will broadcast the Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) Masters Series from June 24 to July 17 in Hindi, Tamil and English.

The tournament will be broadcast on Star Sports 2 from Nodwin Studios, specially built for large-scale eSports tournaments in New Delhi. The participating teams will play for a prize pool of Rs 1.5 crore.

“We have been working tirelessly during the pandemic to lay the groundwork for such a great collaboration,” said Akshat Rati, Managing Director and Co-Founder of Nodwin Gaming. “This is a very big step in the right direction for us as we now mainstream esports. Until now, esports has always been associated with live streaming on digital platforms. Through this collaboration with a major sports channel, we hope to break that mold.”

Rati added that satellite television has its advantages, such as unrivaled coverage in all corners of the country, uninterrupted and timely broadcasting regardless of Internet connection and speed, and accessibility to the masses living in remote areas. “We look forward to expanding the reach of esports, connecting with youth across India and bringing esports into the arena of other traditional sports,” he added.

Adding esports to global multi-sport events such as the Olympics, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games is a strong indication of the growing prestige of this sport throughout the world.

Sanjog Gupta, head of sports department, Disney Star said: “Esports in India is a fast growing segment that has gained momentum over the past two years. It has huge room for growth in India compared to its status in developed markets around the world. It is also gaining prominence in the ecosystem as a competitive sport. Esports competitions have already carved a niche on digital platforms. As the preferred destination for sports fans, Star Sports is always looking for opportunities to attract fans, energize communities and reach new audiences. Our partnership with Nodwin Gaming aims to shape the future of esports in India by bringing high quality competition and outstanding players to millions of TV viewers across the country. We hope this will fuel the esports fan base among gamers and boost the aspirations of athletes.”

Top 24 BGMI India teams will take part in the tournament. Teams with fan bases reaching into the millions that dominate the digital space will get their game prowess, stellar performances and rivalry in a linear distribution for the first time.
