A teenager died on July 4 in a boating accident on Blind River; driver punished for drunk driving, car murder

FRENCH SETTLEMENT. The man was arrested after a 17-year-old girl died in a July 4 boat crash in Livingston Parish.

Several law enforcement officials were called to Blind River near the Diversion Canal on Monday evening after a teenager, identified as Madison Bradley of Slidell, fell off a pontoon boat.

“She was everything to me, she was my best friend,” Madison’s mom Leigh-Anne Bradley said.

“She loved life. She had an amazing life, an amazing spirit. She would do anything for anyone, in the blink of an eye it didn’t matter,” Madison’s father Michael Bradley said.

The Department of Wildlife and Fisheries said she was behind the rails at the front of the boat with another passenger when she collided with a passing vessel. Both passengers fell out due to rough water and Bradley was hit by the boat’s propellers.

Her body was discovered later that day. The other passenger who fell out was not seriously injured.

The boat driver, 33-year-old Dustin Crowe, was arrested and jailed in Livingston Parish Jail for vehicular homicide, drunk driving and reckless boating.

The girl’s death came after several fatal incidents on the water in and around the same area. Last week, three boatmen drowned in Lake Morepa, and another person drowned in the Diversion Canal just a few weeks before.

“I’ve been doing this for 40 years and I’ve learned that you have a good year and you have a low year. Unfortunately, this is a high year,” Sergeant Randy told Lan.
