Bemidji man flees courtroom after sentencing, police say

DETROIT LAKES, Minnesota. – The man was detained after authorities said he fled the courthouse after being sentenced to prison.

The Becker County Sheriff’s Office says Alexander Rober, 25, of Bemidji, reported to Detroit Lakes District Court around 2:00 pm Wednesday that he had been sentenced on a charge of escape from custody for which he posted bail.

After the judge sentenced Robert to 20 months in prison, he fled the courtroom on the second floor and ran out of the building, authorities say.

While the officers tried to catch Robert and searched the area, they did not find him.

Around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, authorities said Robaret was arrested in Detroit Lakes without incident. He is currently in custody pending further charges.
