Peace No. 3 rose from the set, overcoming a nervous start to beat Marie Buzkova 3–6 6–1 6–1 on Center Court.
But when she reached the final four, she said that for her personally it was a long time ago.
“I had a little talk with (former world number 22) Hisham Arazi and he told me, ‘The Arabs always lose in the quarter-finals and we’re sick of it. Please break it.” I’m like, “I’ll try, friend” … We just corresponded, and he was very happy. He’s like, “Thank you for finally reaching the semi-finals. Now you can really go and get the title.” . ‘”
For Jabeur, a quarter-finalist at last year’s Wimbledon and the 2020 Australian Open, this was the moment she stepped onto the historic court.
After a sloppy first set, in which Buzkova’s defense and speed helped unsettle Zhaber and make untimely mistakes, the Tunisian finally got back on her feet.
The 27-year-old has scored more wins than mistakes in the last two sets, winning eight straight games 2-1 in the second set.
And she won eight of the last nine points in the final set for an important and groundbreaking win.
Maria is enjoying her remarkable run to the semi-finals just 15 months after giving birth to her second daughter.
The German and Zhaber are good friends away from tennis, and Zhaber recognizes the world number one. 103 is her “barbecue buddy”.
“So nice to see her with the kids on tour. The fact that she really came back and did everything, and, really, she deserves to be here, ”said Zhaber. “She had a very difficult draw, she beat (Elena) Ostapenko, she beat (Maria) Sakkari. Indeed, she played very well. I know that she could play very well on grass.
“Of course, she’s hard to play, and I joked with (Mary’s first daughter) Charlotte, I told her, ‘Will you support me or your mom?’ I’m trying to get all the kids on my side… I’m really happy for her that she’s getting what she deserves. I know she struggled a lot. It’s not easy to come back after having two children. It will be a great match between us, a lot of respect, of course.”
