Simone Biles becomes the youngest recipient of the Medal of Freedom

Athlete Simone Biles was among more than a dozen people awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Joe Biden Thursday, July 7, at the White House. Biles, 25, is not only one of the most decorated American gymnasts in history, with seven Olympic medals to her credit, but also the youngest recipient of a presidential medal. According to the White House, Biles is “a prominent advocate for the mental health and safety of athletes, children in foster care, and victims of sexual abuse.” The White House named 17 recipients of the Medal of Freedom, three of whom were awarded the medal posthumously.
