Ukrainian security forces on Thursday once again hung their flag over the infamous Snake Island a week after Russia withdrew its soldiers from a disputed island in the Black Sea.

In a video posted on Twitter by Chief of Staff Andriy Yermak President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskythree soldiers can be seen near a large Ukrainian flag placed next to a building that appears to have been hit by shelling.

The soldiers set about placing large pieces of rubble from the collapsed structure to secure the flagpole in place.

The message was signed by the head of the Odessa Regional Military Administration Maxim Marchenko.

Moscow hurriedly withdrew its troops from the island last week after a nighttime missile attack by Ukrainian forces that left the island covered in black smoke by morning.

Russian officials later said they left the island as a “goodwill gesture” as the UN and international partners seek to secure shipping lanes in the Black Sea to curb the growing food shortage crisis.

Although the Russian Defense Ministry on Thursday said they struck Serpents’ Island shortly after the flag was raised, with precision-guided missiles.
