Pilipinas Shell opens charging station for electric vehicles

Philippines Shell Petroleum Corp. on Thursday opened its first electric vehicle (EV) charging station, a move that brings the oil company closer to meeting its goal of reducing its carbon footprint.

An electric vehicle charging station, dubbed Shell Recharge, is initially available at Shell Mamplasan. The oil company said it would gradually roll out Shell Recharge to more Shell Mobility stations over the next 12 months.

The first Shell-branded charger and currently the most powerful DC fast charger along the South Luzon Expressway will make electric vehicle charging more convenient and affordable for users. It comes with two EV charging points with CCS2 connectors, allowing you to charge two vehicles at the same time.

With a 180 kWh DC fast charger, the Shell Recharge station at Shell Mamplasan allows an average electric vehicle to be fully charged in just 30 minutes.

“We will ensure that Shell facilities become a go-to destination for all customers, whether they drive traditional cars or electric vehicles, through a comprehensive fuel, electric vehicle and retail offering. There are mobile destinations for everyone,” said Istvan Kapitany, global executive vice president of Shell Mobility.

In addition, the oil company launched the Shell NBS Carbon Offset Service.

For an additional service charge per liter, customers can choose to offset the equivalent carbon emissions of their fuel purchases. The total number of liters purchased by carbon offset customers is then assigned to equivalent carbon credits from Shell NBS’s independently verified global portfolio of afforestation, reforestation and conservation projects. These carbon credits are then written off by Shell on behalf of the client.

In 2020, Pilipinas Shell became the first energy company in the Philippines to offer the NBS carbon offset service to its B2B customers. Pilipinas Shell is now working with its retailers to make carbon offsetting affordable to consumers.

“As the first Shell market in Asia to offer this specific service to everyday customers, Pilipinas Shell highlights its commitment to continuous development to achieve a more sustainable future,” said Loreli Quiambao-Osial, Head of Shell Philippines.

Shell NBS Carbon Offset service is available at 15 sites, including Shell Mamplasan. By the end of the year, this number could grow to 100 sites.

Shell Recharge for EV and NBS Carbon Offset Service are among the initiatives to reduce carbon emissions and meet a growing number of customers whose needs are changing rapidly.

“Shell is rapidly becoming the leading vehicle manufacturing company in the Philippines and this launch is a testament to its range of offerings for motorists,” Capitani added.
