Baker Mayfield’s disrespect knows no bounds. Not even the Carolina Panthers. who recently traded for QB, cast a shadow towards Mayfield before getting him.

Based on any of the endless Mayfield reports you have believed. assumed there were many or very little interest from league teams to trade for Mayfield, his salary was one of the biggest factors in the situation.

Mayfield received a guaranteed salary of $18.86 million, a big sum for a quarterback of his caliber after an injury-riddled season.

Bye Carolina ended up landing Mayfield for just a fifth-round pick – which could turn into a fourth-round pick – he didn’t want to take that much salary to get him. Having said that, the Panthers’ initial request for a pay cut for Mayfield was significant, to say the least.

It’s an important demand from the Panthers, Mayfield’s current employer, for a player who has already entered into a self-assertion agreement and is committed to becoming an unrestricted free agent next season.

I’d like to think Mayfield is a pretty even-tempered guy. Having said that, Mayfield can’t be happier with the fact that the owner of his new team wanted to see his salary cut by $7 million. It’s not exactly a show of faith in your new quarterback.

The Panthers are in an interesting position as Sam Darnold is still on the list, and just a couple of months later, he hasn’t selected Matt Corral in the third round of the NFL Draft. Carolina was clear that she needed another trusted QB in the room, but the franchise isn’t too sure about handing him the keys just yet.
