Energy-saving artistic contour ceilings: contour ceiling

This beautifully contoured ceiling was designed by researchers at the ETH Zurich University of Technology. The project called “HiRes Concrete Slab” not only brings aesthetic innovation to the interior design industry. According to the researchers, it also has energy-saving properties.

A prototype contoured ceiling is installed in the ETH Zurich NEST research building. The researchers used 3D printing techniques and incorporated “material reduction, integrated building services, and impressive free-form aesthetics.” The chosen method of construction allows innovators to use a minimum amount of material. The spectacular contoured ceiling features four custom ventilation ducts designed by the A/S team. The geometry of these air ducts allows the ceiling to “optimize airflow and minimize mechanical energy,” as doctoral student Andrei Zhipa shared.
