Man threatens Topeka woman with chainsaw after crashing into her house

TOPICA, Kan. (WIBW) – A man is in jail after he crashed his truck into a mobile home in North Topeka and threatened residents with a chainsaw.

Around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 5th Topeka Police Department says officers were called up in 1819 NE Burgess Ct. with reports of a possible hostage situation.

On the way, the officers said the dispatcher told them that several calls had come in with reports that a mobile home trailer had been hit by a car in the area.

As a result of the investigation, TPD stated that 20-year-old Jayden Robert Evans from Topeka was detained in Shoni Co. correction department for aggravated assault, aggravated endangerment of a child, criminal threat, felony, felony damage to property.

The homeowner told 13 NEWS that she was in the kitchen at the time of the incident and it felt like an earthquake. She still cannot enter the trailer to retrieve her belongings as it is unstable. She also noted that Evans threatened her with a chainsaw after he crashed into her house.

The landlord claimed that Evans claimed that she and her fiancé were holding her daughter hostage.

The investigation showed that there were no real hostages in this situation, and only minor injuries were reported.
