The Camp Nou stadium in Barcelona has broken its own attendance record for a women’s football match.
A total of 91,648 spectators watched the Spanish team play against Wolfsburg in the first leg of the UEFA Women’s Champions League semi-final on Friday.
Attendance surpassed the record of 91,553 set only at Camp Nou in March when Barcelona played Real Madrid.
The previous attendance record for a women’s soccer game was 90,185 – it was the 1999 Women’s World Cup final between the United States and China at the Rose Bowl.
Barcelona won 5-1 and took the decisive step towards the final of the UEFA Women’s Champions League. The second leg is due to take place in Germany on 30 April.
The winners will play either Lyon or PSG in the final in Turin on 21 May.
Barcelona are looking to defend their crown with last season’s La Liga, Copa Reina and Champions League trebles.
