Hlatshwayo, 32, recently released by the Orlando Pirates, will be reunited with new Matsatsanz head coach Gavin Hunt, for whom he played six seasons at Bidvest Wheats, including winning the DStv Premier League title in 2017.

“Signing Tyson is a great addition for the club, he has a lot of experience. He was the captain of Bafana Bafana and also my captain in Bidvest Wits. to start moving again,” Hunt said.

“This is a huge opportunity for him and for us at the club.”

Hlatshwayo joined the Pirates after the Wits were bought out in 2020, and while he helped the Buccaneers win the 2020 MTN8, his return to his childhood club has been a disappointment overall. Now he is looking to revive his SuperSport career as Bafana has also fallen out of favor.

“SuperSport United is a team that has been known to win trophies and I hope I can share my experience, which means I have to work equally hard,” Hlatshwayo said.

“There is competition in the team which is good for the energy around the players as well as keeping the unity and I will make sure I earn my right to play.”
