tiktok: Italian security alerts TikTok to alleged violation of EU privacy rules

The Italian data protection authority has officially warned a Chinese short video sharing app. tik tak about the alleged violation of the Europe rules to protect user privacy, the watchdog said on Monday.

TikTok, which is growing rapidly around the world, especially among teenagers, has told users in recent weeks that it intends to serve them with targeted ads, but has not asked for consent to use the data stored on their devices, an Italian watchdog said.

TikTok representative in Italy there was no immediate comment.

Italian authorities have said they are also concerned that inappropriate ads could be aimed at minors, given the challenges TikTok has had in accurately tracking the age of its users.
