Goldman Sachs hires Alphabet tech incubator CEO Jared Cohen

Goldman Sachs Executive Director David Solomon hired another senior executive from the technology sector.

Investment bank adds AlphabetX Jared Cohenprotégé of former Google CEO Eric Schmidt and founder Puzzlethe tech giant’s incubator to help create a new innovation group, Solomon said Tuesday in a memo obtained by CNBC.

This is the last step taken by Solomon to introduce technological focus into a 153-year-old investment bank. The group, called the Office of Applied Innovation, will be led by Cohen and CIO George Lee. In 2019, Solomon hired a former Amazon Web Services CEO Marco Argenti as co-director of information technology.

“Working closely with Goldman Sachs executives, George and Jared will specifically identify and advance business opportunities for the firm that are at the intersection of a changing global market, changing geopolitical landscape and rapidly evolving technology,” Solomon said. Both men would report directly to him, Solomon added.

Cohen is joining New York Goldman at the highest level: he will be a partner and a member of the steering committee, and will serve as president of global affairs, Solomon said.

He added that since October, Argenti has been the sole chief information officer.
