E3 will return to Los Angeles for an in-person event in 2023.

The Electronic Entertainment Expo, the video game showcase commonly known as E3, will return to its old Los Angeles locations in 2023.

The annual event will return to the Los Angeles Convention Center three years after no in-person meetings due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

E3 host Entertainment Software Assn. will partner with event management company ReedPop for next year’s in-person and online conference. ReedPop is also known for hosting New York Comic Con, Star Wars Celebration, and PAX gaming culture events.

“ReedPop brings world-class talent and a deep understanding of the video game industry that will enhance the E3 experience for years to come,” ESA President and CEO Stanley Pierre-Louis said in a statement provided to The Times.

Kyle Marsden-Kish, ReedPop’s Global VP of Games, added that E3’s return to Los Angeles will be “recognizably epic” and set “a new benchmark for video game trade shows in 2023 and beyond.”

The annual video game extravaganza, which in the past drew more than 65,000 fans and industry figures at the Los Angeles Convention Center, was canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic. E3 returned in 2021 as a four-day virtual event.

In January, E3 2022 was originally scheduled to take place after last year’s show. online format due to concerns about the micron variant of the virus. However, the event was canceled entirely in March, with ESA promising to “bring the physical and digital experience of E3 to life” in 2023.

“The 2023 showcase will bring the community, media and industry together for an entirely new format and interactive experience,” ESA previously said of its event, which took place in the second week of June 2023.

But since E3 is closed for the summer, other members of the gaming community have taken matters into their own hands to introduce updates to highly anticipated titles.

In June, Game Awards founder Geoff Keighley filled the void with his annual Summer Game Fest showcase, which also return in 2023. Similarly, PlayStation and Santa Monica Studio hit the headlines on Thursday with release date and trailer for the upcoming God of War: Ragnarok.
