Gaston County Animal Services responds to report of wallaby in area

GASTONIA, NC (WBTV) – A possible wallaby was spotted in the Gastonia area on Monday.

A video sent by WBTV shows a wallaby or kangaroo jumping around the area around Lineberger Park.

Gaston County Animal Services responded to a report about the area and found the person in charge of the animal, which says it is a wallaby. Officials will try to confirm and take action on this matter.

Gaston County Captain Matt Hensley said experts are making sure the animal is taken to where it belongs and is cared for.

Hensley says the animal didn’t cause any problems or trouble and just hung around in the yard.

Brian Southers lives in the area where the wallaby was spotted. He told WBTV what he saw on Monday.

“It was a Duggon wallaby or a kangaroo or whatever he was sitting there and I just had to look at him, turn around really slowly and he looked back and I thought, ‘This can’t be true.’ And suddenly he started jumping, and I caught a bunch of live photos and videos with him. It was the most trippy thing I’ve ever seen,” Souters explained.
