Twitter down due to global outage

Twitter, the social media giant with 330 million active users, appears to be back online after reports of a global outage on Thursday morning, according to website Downdetector, which monitors internet outages.

Twitter did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Downdetector recorded more than 54,000 social media platform crash reports at approximately 8:15 AM ET.

The company is in the midst of a high-profile legal battle with billionaire Elon Musk, who agreed in April to buy the company for $44 billion but said last week he intended to back out of the deal. Twitter sues Musk on Tuesday to force him to close the deal.
