TS Galaxy has announced the signing of Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Sibusiso Vilakazi.
Vilakazi’s announcement came a couple of hours after the club announced the acquisition of former Orlando Pirates and AmaZulu FC midfielder Xola Mlambo.
Vilakazi, 32, a Soweto native, joins Galaxy after spending more than five years with the Sundowns.
Vilakazi’s contract with the Brazilians expired next June, but as Phakaaathi previously reported, he was not part of the technical team’s plans for next season.
Several DStv Premiership teams such as Sekhukhune United and Royal AM were reportedly looking to sign the former Bidvest Wits captain.
However, the Rockets moved quickly to secure the signature of a player who can play as a right winger, attacking midfielder or centre-forward.
TS Galaxy FC has signed Sibusiso “Villa” Vilakazi. Welcome to Rockets Family Villa,” the club wrote on its official Twitter account.
Vilakazi joins the Mpumalanga-based club after an incredible career that started with Bidvest Wits juniors where he was promoted to the senior team in 2009 and at some point became team captain.
He left the Wits in 2016 for the Sundowns where he won a string of trophies with the club including five Premier League titles, one Caf Super Cup, one Telkom Knockout Cup, one MTN8 Cup and two Nedbank Cups.
The addition of Vilakazi and Mlambo to the Galaxy team came just after the club extended the contract of veteran midfielder Lindokule Mbata for another season for two days.
