South Korean golfer Si-woo Kim saves par with stunning bunker shot on hole 17 Open Championship first round on Thursday.
Kim was on the fourth shot in bunker for 17, also called the Road Pit. He definitely needed a save to stay close to the leaders at the top of the table. The ball broke out of the sand and picked up speed after hitting the turf.
The ball headed for the hole and almost flew out of it before falling into the cup.
The 27-year-old Seoul native kept par and finished with 3 points in the round with 69 points. Kim had six birds, one ghost and one double ghost. He had only birds and steam on the back nine.
Kim, who won the 2017 Players Championship at age 21, has a total of three PGA Tour wins, but he has never finished better than 67th (in 2018) at the Open Championship.
He did not play in the 2021 tournament and missed out on qualifying in 2019 and 2017.
Kim’s best result at any major golf tournament came in 2021 Masters, where he tied for 12th place.
