VIDEO: The Queen rarely visits Windsor Castle

Queen Elizabeth II made a rare public appearance on Friday, visiting a hospice in Kent in southern England.

The 96-year-old monarch, joined by Princess Anne, officially opened the new Thames Hospice building, which was visited by many royal guests.

During the visit, she spoke to a woman with stage 4 cancer who was on a break and opened a sign with her name.

The facility, which was formerly located in Windsor, was opened by the Queen in 1987 and has been visited in the past by Diana, Princess of Wales.
