Manchester United signed Christian Eriksen on Friday, and the Danish midfielder arrived at Old Trafford as a free agent on a three-year deal.
The 30-year-old’s move to the Red Devils completes an incredible comeback after he faced death last year.
Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch in Copenhagen while playing for Denmark in the European Championship and had to leave Inter Milan after recovering due to Serie A health regulations.
Equipped with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator, Eriksen proved his fit and fitness during his loan spell at Brentford in the second half of last season.
He played 11 times in the Premier League for the Bees, scoring one goal and providing four assists.
Manchester United is a special club and I can’t wait to get started,” Eriksen said.
“I’ve had the honor of playing at Old Trafford many times, but to do so in the red United shirt is an amazing feeling.”
Eriksen has experience working with United manager Eric Ten Hag after training with Ajax as part of his return to football after a cardiac arrest.
Ten Hag, who took over at United at the end of the season after leaving the Dutch champions, is looking to revitalize his new side after they finished a disappointing sixth in the Premier League last season.
“I have seen Eric’s work at Ajax and I know the level of detail and preparation that he and his staff work with every day. It is clear that he is a fantastic coach, ”added Eriksen.
“Having spoken to him and learned more about his vision and how he wants the team to play, I am even more looking forward to the future.
“I still have big ambitions in the game, I know I can achieve a huge amount of things and this is the perfect place to continue my journey.”
Eriksen was Ten Hag’s second signing after the arrival of Dutch left-back Tyrell Malasia from Feyenoord.
However, United’s plans for the new season have been derailed by reports that Cristiano Ronaldo wants to leave the club after they failed to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
