Toshikazu Yamanishi defended the men’s 20 km race walking world title

On Friday, Toshikazu Yamanishi won his second consecutive men’s 20 km race walking world title and became the first Japanese track and field athlete to win gold in consecutive world championships.

His compatriot and Olympic silver medalist in Tokyo last summer, Koki Ikeda, took silver as Japan won its first medals at the ongoing World Championships in Eugene, Oregon. Yamanishi was third at the Tokyo Games.
