Xi Jinping Visits China’s Regions to ‘Stay in Power’

Former DFAT Australian-Chinese Council researcher Andrew Phelan says that “everything that’s going on in China right now” has to do with the party’s 20th convention later this year.

“Twice a decade, China holds this meeting and it confirms leadership for the next five years, both supreme leader and prime minister,” he told Sky News anchor Chris Smith.

According to him, this is the reason why Chinese President Xi Jinping visits the regions of China.

“It’s all about keeping Xi in power.”
