A shooter who opened fire at a rally in South Holland Park was shot dead by an on-duty police officer

CHICAGO (CBS) – A man has died after being shot by an off-duty police officer who witnessed a domestic gun dispute in South Holland, Illinois, on Saturday night.

According to the Village of South Holland, it happened during a meeting in Maykach Park.

A domestic dispute arose between a man and his current girlfriend and ex-girlfriend at a family reunion.

The man and his current girlfriend left the meeting but then returned and the man started shooting.

The duty officer from Palos Hills was at the same meeting and returned fire, hitting the shooter.

The shooter was taken to hospital but later died. According to local authorities, no innocent bystanders were hurt.
