However, the Chiefs still have Itumeleng Khun, who is the club’s captain, but he had almost no playing time last season and is unlikely to be a regular in the upcoming season.

In Kuhn’s absence, the captains were Bernard Parker and Ramahlwe Mfahlele. Daniel Cardoso has also been awarded the captain’s bracelet several times.

But all three are no longer with Amahoshi. This leaves Artur Zvane with the task of finding a new man to lead the team on the field.

He has several candidates in the form of experienced activists such as Keegan Dolly, Hama Billiat and Eric Matoho. The latter, however, is in the hierarchy.

Another candidate for the Zvan will be new player Zita Hvinika, who had the same duties at his old club Stellenbosch FC.

The Pirates have also fired all of their captains since last season. The Buccaneers captained Happy Jehle, Thulani Hlatshwayo and Ntsikelelo Nyauza last season.

But all three left the club. Hlatshwayo asked to be released after a terrible two years in Pirates. He has since joined SuperSport United where he could be named captain if Ronwen Williams leaves.

New Pirates coach Jose Rivero has the difficult task of choosing a new captain. But he may have considered candidates such as Tabang Monare, Thembinkoshi Lorch and Ben Motswari as possible candidates.

Innocent Maela previously captained Tanda Royal Zulu and could be a good candidate, as would goalkeeper Richard Ofori.

There are also new signings for Nkoshinati Sibisi and Tapelo Shoki, who captained their former teams Golden Arrows and AmaZulu FC last season.

Olisa Ndah showed his qualities last season, and now that he is in his second season, he can be considered for this position and he will feel more confident.

Fans will see their new captains on August 6 when their teams kick off their DStv Premiership campaigns.

The Pirates will start at home against Soweto rivals Swallows FC, while the Chiefs will travel to Royal AM in Durban the same day.
