LOS ANGELES – Juan Soto put contract negotiations and trade rumors behind him by one night when the Washington Nationals star won Monday’s Home Run derby in Los Angeles by a 19-18 lead in the final over Seattle Mariners rookie Julio Rodriguez.
Soto did not hit his first home run in the final round until nearly 45 seconds of the two-minute time limit had elapsed, but overcame it in overtime. He found himself in walking vogue when he hit his 19th home run in the final round and hit the Dodger Stadium seats in right field.
