Farmers ‘terrified’ by potential FMD outbreak

Victorian Farmers’ Federation President Emma Germano says farmers across the country are “absolutely scared” by the threat of a potential foot-and-mouth disease outbreak.

“This is something that will bring our industry to a complete halt,” Ms Germano told Sky News anchor Chris Smith.

She said it would have “serious implications” for Australian consumers who simply want to eat fresh Australian meat.

“This is something that no one wants to let into the country, and so we are talking about very simple biosecurity measures – we should throw a kitchen sink on this right now.”
