IIT Bombay: Eros Investments Partners with IIT Bombay to Develop Kurosawa AI Scenario Tool

Investments, which owns the assets of Eros Now and Eros Innovations, became a partner IIT Bombay design and develop an AI-based tool for automatic script generation, Kurosawa.

Named after Akira Kurosawa, the famous Japanese film director, Kurosawa is conceived as an attempt

entertainment industry with cutting-edge technology to create a full-length feature film script. The software will help filmmakers in developing the plot and script of films. IIT Bombay will also create a white paper on Kurosawa for academic and research purposes.

“This association between Eros Investments and IIT Bombay is a great example of the fusion of the left and right hemispheres,” said Swainith Singh, Director, Eros Investments. Kurosawa is an innovative and cutting-edge technology that will revolutionize the entertainment industry. The tool will allow screenwriters to focus on creativity and quality by doing the groundwork for them. This innovation marks a new milestone for Eros Investments, which will be used as an example in the future.”

Teams from IIT Bombay and Eros have been collaborating on Kurosawa for over a year now.

Kurosawa will present a huge opportunity to transform the art of storytelling with mastery and efficiency for content creators. We welcome cooperation with Eros Investments led by prof. Pushpak Bhattacharya of IIT Bombay to automate the scripting process in the entertainment industry,” said Prof. Milind Etri, Dean of Research and Development, IIT Bombay. “As a result of the study, IIT Bombay will also jointly release a white paper on Kurosawa to be used for academic and research purposes, further supporting the younger generation to make a mark on the industry.”

Kurosawa can help identify the right genre, provide a logline and synopsis, and provide a potentially popular script that can be further customized as needed.

At the current stage, Kurosawa is able to create several captivating plots and scenes based on a single input. For example, it can create genre movies, basic genre(s), and a short 2-3 sentence prompt. It can also create scenes in a standard script format based on a short description.

Automatic screenplay generation is a subfield of Natural Language Generation (NLG). The machine can learn to create a story and scene based on existing data with minimal human intervention.

The Kurosawa course is based on the latest deep learning and natural language processing technologies. It is led by Professor Bhattacharya, known for his expertise in artificial intelligence and machine learning, as well as a world-renowned research group. He is a professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Bombay and a Member of the National Academy of Engineering (2015) and Abdul Kalam National Fellow (2020). prof. In this project, Bhattacharya is supported by IIT Bombay students who participate in the curriculum.
