Texas A&M wide receiver Inias Smith arrested on drunk driving, gun possession and drug charges

Lead wide receiver Texas A&M Inias Smith was arrested early Wednesday on charges of drunk driving. illegal possession of weaponsand possession of less than 2 ounces of marijuana, police said.

The Texas native was initially pulled over by police near University Drive around 2 a.m. but was arrested after failing a standard field sobriety test. KBTX reportedciting a possible cause.

According to the report, he registered 0.066 and 0.061 while testing the breathalyzer. Police also found a loaded gun and marijuana during a search of his vehicle.

Smith was suspended from the football team in accordance with sports department policy following his arrest, a team spokesman said, adding that Head Coach Jimbo Fisher was aware of the situation and understood it.

Smith led Aggie’s exits in receiving yards last season with 509 yards and six touchdowns. In three seasons, he scored 1,321 yards with 15 touchdowns.

Smith was scheduled to attend SEC Media Days Thursday in Atlanta along with Fischer and two other players. After his arrest, Smith was released on $8,000 bail.
