Windward Hires DJ Gay as Boys Basketball Coach

He was the head coach at La Jolla Country Day, which reached the San Diego Section Division 1 championship game last season.

“We really fired up,” said Windward athletic director Tyrone Powell. “From the first conference, I thought this guy was in line with the values ​​of our school.”

Gay’s trainer at Poly, Brad Katz, now associate director at Westlake, said, “I went to San Diego and saw him coach both the travel ball and Country Day,” Katz said. “He does a very good job. He is calm and the children respond well.”

Gay, 33, will replace Colin Pfaff, who stepped down to move his family to Northern California. Gay’s first task will be to ensure that a talented group of young Windward players stay at Windward.
