Amahoshi were really impressive in the tournament where they first defeated the SuperSport United reserves 4-2 in the quarter-finals and then knocked out the Mamelodi Sundowns reserves 2-0 in the semi-finals.

With all the fan talk and a promising future for the youth, Khumalo says that the job assigned to the reserve team is nothing new in the Glamor Boys’ development structures.

Luckily for him, most of the boys on the Chiefs team were part of his South African Under-17 team that won the 2020 Under-17 Kosaf Cup, most notably Mduduzi Shabalala who walked away with the Player of the Tournament award in 2020. this edition.

“There’s a lot of work going on in the development structures at the Chiefs because we want to make sure these guys are the best they can be. And one thing that everyone should know is that these are the same boys who won the Kosaf Cup (under 17), well, most of them were on the Amajimbo team that I coached,” Khumalo said.

“So it’s a process, when I started with them they were 15 and now they’re 18. We educate them and make them the stars of the future. They are getting better every day. They did well in the Diski Shield, we just need to get the job done in the final.”

The youth of the Chiefs will take on an exciting reserve team from Stellenbosch that won last season’s DStv Diski Challenge. Team Cape will advance to the finals in hopes of picking up their second trophy this season, while the Chiefs will be aiming for their second Diski Shield by winning the tournament back in 2018.

Meanwhile, Downs reserves will play for third/fourth place in the play-offs, who will play Chippa United on the same day.
