Carney, who spent seven years at Amazon as senior vice president of global corporate affairs, will join Airbnb in September and report to co-founder and CEO Brian Chesky. He will be based in Washington.
In an email to Amazon’s senior management seen by Reuters, CEO Andy Jassi said the online retailer would immediately find a replacement and Carney’s public policy representatives would report to general counsel David Zapolsky. Drew Herdener, Amazon’s chief public relations officer, will now report to Jassi.
Carney said he is grateful to have worked for “an organization that made a difference and made a positive impact” and that the teams he left behind are in “very good hands,” according to an email he wrote to the Amazon organization. on global corporate issues that Reuters saw.
