Athletes from Sri Lanka overcome obstacles to stay on track for the Commonwealth Games

Sri Lankan badminton champion Niluka Karunaratne will travel to England next week to end his Commonwealth Games career where it began – a swan song that was all but derailed by the economic crisis in his bankrupt country.

The organizers of the competition and the Sri Lanka Cricket Board are funding the largest contingent of the Games in the history of the island nation: 114 athletes will fly to Birmingham in the coming days, along with coaches and support staff.
