The government has introduced tough new biosecurity measures to help prevent the spread of FMD from Indonesia.
The new rules went into effect at midnight Friday and will be tested for three months.
Travelers arriving in Australia from Indonesia will now be required to comply with strict biosecurity measures at airports.
The new powers were put in place for the first time since the passage of the Biosafety Act in 2015.
Biosecurity officers will be able to order passengers to wash their shoes and use disinfectant foot mats.
