Buffaloes rookie Ren Mukunoki is one strike behind the no-hitter

Ren Mukunoki, the Orics Buffaloes’ top pick last fall, allowed his lone hit with two strikeouts and two hits in the ninth inning in a 2-0 Pacific League win over the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters on Wednesday.

Nippon Ham’s Ryusei Sato lined up a high 2-2 slider to the center to smash a right-handed rookie bid for history at Kyocera Dome Osaka. There have been four no-hitters thrown this season, the second highest number in a single professional season in Japan. Japan does not register non-hitters when a run is allowed.
