France knock out the hosts the Netherlands with a penalty after extra time

France defender Eve Perisse converted a penalty in extra time to earn a 1-0 win over defending champions Netherlands on Saturday to reach the semi-finals of the Women’s European Championship for the first time, where they will face Germany.

France, whose last three Euro matches ended in the quarter-finals, were desperately looking for a loophole by continuing to surround the Dutch goal, but Perissa needed a penalty in the 102nd minute to break the stalemate.
